Outreach Comments

Comments from the hosts of Community Outreach Screenings:
"The library was thrilled to be able to host the first in a three-part series of The American Road to Victory series.  Those who attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves, while having Director Richard Lanni present provided unique and interesting insight into both the events of D-Day as well as the making of the films.  We were especially excited to have several veterans or active military personal in attendance, particularly a veteran of World War II.  Mr. Lanni’s and Livingbattlefield’s generosity and inclusion of the veterans as part of the program provided a unique perspective.  The library is grateful to Richard Lanni and to Livingbattlefield for their assistance in presenting the program, and we look forward to screening the other two films in the series over the coming months."

“I planned a screening of The Americans on D-Day at the Charleston County Library to commemorate this historic day and pay tribute to those that served. In watching the film ahead of time, I grew more and more excited about the event because I knew I would be offering our patrons something far more than an ordinary documentary about World War II. The film transports the viewers to that day and allows you to see the battle through the eyes of those that were there. Accounts from both American and German veterans remind you of the very dear price that was paid by all involved. After the screening, one of the attendees said he had been to Normandy, had seen every film about World War II, and studied military history extensively, and this was the best representation of the events of D-Day that he had ever come across. I am already getting calls asking when I will be screening the next film in the Americans Road to Victory trilogy.

Livingbattlefield is not just offering an educational, insightful and engaging film trilogy. They are providing an unforgettable experience. There were four World War II veterans in attendance and getting the chance to hear them speak and share their experience is something I will always treasure as will all those who  attended. Honoring these veterans and preserving these pieces of history is truly what Livingbattlefield is accomplishing.

"The “Road to Victory” Project is critical to bringing the history of the greatest generation to our current generation.  Public libraries as the center of their communities throughout the United States are natural partners to bring WWII veterans and the public together.  Using livingbattlefield.org productions as a catalyst to engage veterans and start them talking about their shared experiences provides living history at its highest level.  I highly recommend this amazing program to public libraries throughout the United States."
